AsianFin--China's urban unemployment rate fell to 5% in June, down from 5.7 percent year-over-year and below the anticipated maximum of 5.5 percent, thanks to policy support and economic recovery.

From January to June, nearly seven million new urban jobs were created, an increase of 200,000 compared to the same period last year, achieving 58% of the annual target, according to Yun Donglai, deputy director at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, during a press conference on Tuesday.

Employment for key groups, including new university graduates, remained generally stable, Yun said, without providing specific age group data.

However, the stats bureau reported last week that the urban unemployment rate for young people aged 16 to 24, excluding students, was 13.2% in June. The rate was 6.4% for those aged 25-29 and 4 percent for adults aged 30 to 59.
