Chinese Cybersecurity Stocks Surge After Global IT Outage

AsianFin--Chinese cybersecurity stocks, including Oriental Jicheng and Koal Software, soared following last week's global IT outage caused by a failed software update from CrowdStrike Holdings.

Chinese companies were largely unaffected by the IT disruption on July 19 due to their use of independent vendors for data security and cloud services, which helped safeguard infrastructure and applications, according to the chief of WPS Office, an office software firm.

The outage, which impacted nearly 10 million Windows-based devices worldwide, followed CrowdStrike's update to a cloud-based antivirus software not available in Chinese mainland. This led to significant disruptions across banks, airlines, retailers, telecom companies, and other service providers.
